Even though smoking is never going to be good for you, recent studies prove that it is significantly less harmful to one’s lungs than cigarette smoke is. These days, marijuana is used to help treat diseases like cancer, AIDS, and glaucoma as well as disorders like insomnia and anxiety. With medical marijuana being legalized in more and more states, awareness of the drug is growing, and new people are trying it every day. This is why people need to realize that smoking this stuff is much better than a cigarette as it is less harmful to your body and it is not a five minute fix like tobacco. Using weed may help many people to cut down on smoking cigarettes which contain many of the same harmful chemicals that marijuana does. The difference is that tobacco has many other bad chemicals in it.
In many studies, it has been found that moderate use of marijuana can actual increase lung flow and capacity in users. However overuse will lead to a decrease in this benefit much like we see with users of tobacco. It is an undeniable fact that tobacco is more harmful than marijuana to one’s lungs, so why choose to smoke the latter? The addiction of cigarettes is one of the greatest problems in the world today and while smoking marijuana is by no means good for you, it’s not nearly as bad. It is hard to find a more potent bunch of chemicals to readily put into one’s body than there are in a cigarette. The increase in lung flow and activity is not one that you would actually b e able to feel so marijuana smoke is definitely not an avenue to better lung health.
Apart from the well known side effects of smoking marijuana, there are also many other long term side effects from this drug. One of the most concerning ones is an increase in the likelihood of heart attacks. Smoking marijuana has been shown to raise the risk in some cases. There is also a negative effect on the immune system when smoking marijuana. When also factoring in the risk to one’s lungs, it seems like no one would even do this drug. But people continue to do the far worse tobacco every single day. The effect of tobacco on the lungs is really too awful to describe. As much as we all like to smoke our preferred substance, we should really take a harder look at both the short and long term side effects that they can bring.
It seems like we should really not even be touching this stuff when you really think about it, and yet we continue to do it every day. The side effects seem horrible when looking at them, but it is easy to put them in the back of one’s mind when partaking in your plant of choice. But if you are trying to decide between the lesser of two evils, then marijuana is definitely the one you should choose. As long as one doesn’t use marijuana in excess, then you ought to have years and years of enjoyment ahead of yourself. So try and keep from doing either of them, but marijuana is easily the healthier of the two choices.
