Marijuana Prohibition has been the sad truth in this country for many years. While cannabis is one of the most widely used recreational drugs world wide, we still fail to see the financial benefits it could have on our country. After all, trillions of dollars of debt aren’t going to resolve themselves. We need a new source of income if we want to get rid of this country’s financial problems any time soon.
The Medical Marijuana Program
In recent years, many states in our country have instituted medical marijuana programs and the number is steadily growing. The idea is that patients with real medical conditions will be able to acquire medical marijuana from a state approved dispensary. Patients can buy all kinds of things here from marijuana to potent edibles that can mimic the effect of cannabis without damaging your lungs. These medical marijuana programs have become quite popular lately with the recent explosion in the popularity of weed culture. These days, it’s not uncommon to know someone who has a card just because they made up a false medical condition. If people are going to such extremes just to get a little marijuana, don’t you think that maybe the laws are at fault?
Common Misconceptions About Marijuana
Marijuana is not a hard drug like so many people have made it out to be. It is a recreational drug at worst, similar to the way we currently use alcohol and tobacco in this country. Many of those against legalization claim that this will eventually lead to the legalization of other hard drugs and the down fall of the country. While this is not that far of a stretch, less than 10% of US citizens support the legalization of drugs other than marijuana. This means that this prevailing love for all manners of hard drugs that some people imagine just does not exist in most people. Those that talk about the increased THC percentage of the plant from its early years to today. Some say that their marijuana in the 70′s only had 1 – 3% THC. If that were true, you must have gotten ripped off and bought hemp or some other non smoking plant by your dealer! Finally, people claim that marijuana is a gateway drug to marijuana. While this may be true, the great majority of people are smarter than that. Over 100 million people have tried pot and there are only 350,000 users of heroin.
November Ballot Initiatives
The absolute most important thing we can do for the sake of marijuana prohibition is to vote for marijuana related initiatives on our ballots. Many states have some law pertaining to marijuana that could get passed this election. It’s up to the residents of that state to decide the fate of marijuana in it. Hopefully, the country will realize how silly this prohibition is and end it swiftly. But this is not likely going to be the case. Marijuana prohibition will probably stay another stubborn four years before we can completely end this awful idea. Just remember that we are the only fully industrialized country without an industry for hemp! I suppose we just don’t need all of that extra money!
