There have been many changes going on in the United States these past couple of weeks. With all of the results of the recent November elections, it is easy to see why some people are confused at the state of marijuana in our country. States are now split on what they would like to do with the drug and this is sparking a lot of controversy. Let’s hope that other members of our country can sensibly follow in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington for a more peaceful tomorrow.
Let the Smokers Smoke
The federal government still seems hellbent on making the legalization of marijuana difficult, even though residents of two separate states have passed measures regulating and taxing the drug. But it is clear that this was not the result that the government wanted. This is why they are still trying to enforce their ancient laws on these people that have already moved on with the times. The fact is that the war on drugs is not working, and it never really has been. All this phony war does is arrest people for smoking marijuana while the real criminals get away. So many people smoke marijuana that their doesn’t seem to be a need to bust any of the other drugs in the minds of cops. We need to decriminalize this drug so innocent people can stop being put away for victimless crimes.
Maine and Rhode Island
Just recently, both Maine and Rhode Island have proposed measures that would make their states much like Colorado in Washington. This would mean legal marijuana in four US states and it would only grow from there! The speed with which things are getting done on a national level is absolutely astounding. Just a month ago, no one really thought we would be the first country with le gal marijuana that is taxed and regulated. But two of our states were in fact the first to do so. This new way of looking at marijuana treats the recreational drug much like others of its kind. I am referring to tobacco and alcohol as these are the only two other accepted recreational drugs in the country. If this trend continues, we may be seeing legal marijuana in a lot more than just two states!
Changes Around the World
Even other countries have started to question their drug policies with the results of the November elections in the United States. Latin America seems particularly interested in the idea as both Mexico and Uruguay have made it clear that they would also like to legalize the plant. When you get down to the facts, marijuana is not nearly as harmful to the body as many people think it is. In fact, smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol is much more dangerous and can eventually kill you if you consume enough. This is why more and more people are turning to marijuana. Nobody wants to die for their recreational drug. If you feel the same way, then maybe it is time that you changed your recreational drug of choice to good old fashioned cannabis!
